Fallout 76: Migrate Your Bethesda Launcher Account to Steam on April 27

As we’ve mentioned in previous articles, we’re saying goodbye to the Bethesda Launcher this year, and transitioning our PC Bethesda.net community over to Steam. Today, we’re sharing additional details and dates for the account migration process, so that you can prepare to jump over to Steam as soon as we open up migration to all Bethesda Launcher players on April 27.

Starting that day, Fallout 76 players will still be able to access the game through the Bethesda Launcher for a little while longer, but you will be unable to perform any real-money transactions, like purchasing Atoms or renewing a Fallout 1st membership.

Beginning May 11, you will be unable to log into or play Fallout 76 using the Bethesda Launcher, and you will need to complete migration in order to continue your Appalachian adventures on Steam. We highly encourage all of our Bethesda Launcher players to make the switch as early as you can, so that you avoid any interruptions when Fallout 76 logins are disabled in May. The entire process will only take a few moments of your time, and we've developed a tool that will help make the transition as seamless as possible. We’ll provide a link to the tool as soon as migration becomes available to you on April 27, and you will be able to follow the instructions there to begin migrating. In most cases, players' accounts will be available on Steam within minutes after using the tool. However, during periods of high volume, it may take a little longer.

Q: How do I migrate my Bethesda Launcher account to Steam?

A: You can now use our account migration tool on Bethesda.net to transfer your Bethesda Launcher account to Steam. Begin migrating your account to Steam by clicking here.

Q: When will Fallout 76 become unavailable for play through the Bethesda Launcher?

A: Players will be unable to log into or play the PC Bethesda Launcher version of Fallout 76 on May 11, 2022. At that time, you will need to migrate your account to Steam in order to continue your adventures in Fallout 76.

Q: When will real-money transactions be disabled for the Bethesda Launcher version of Fallout 76?

A: On April 27, we will disable real-money transactions in the PC Bethesda Launcher version of the game, which includes purchasing Atoms and renewing Fallout 1st memberships. However, you can continue to spend any Atoms that already exist in your account until we disable logins in May. As mentioned previously, any Atoms that remain in your account after migration will be transferred to your linked Steam account.

Q: Will I need to redownload and install Fallout 76 through Steam?

A: Yes. If you do not currently have Fallout 76 installed through Steam, you will need to download the latest version of the game before you can continue playing.

Q: Will I need to reconfigure my game settings after I move to Steam?

A: No. Your game settings, including preferences like resolution, subtitles, damage numbers, equipped Atomic Shop items (icons, Survival Tent, loot bags), and etc. will be preserved through migration.

Q: Will my yearly membership automatically renew on Steam even though I signed up through Bethesda.net?

A: When your existing Fallout 1st membership through Bethesda.net expires it will not automatically renew. However, you will be able to begin a new membership through Steam.

Q: Will I still be able to access Custom Worlds that friends have shared with me after I move to Steam (and vice versa)?

A: Yes. Migration should have no impact on Custom Worlds, so long as you’ve linked your Steam account to the Bethesda Launcher account you’ve been using.

Q: I already own Fallout 76 on both Steam and the Bethesda Launcher. Will the Atoms from my Bethesda Launcher account be transferred to my Steam account?

A: Yes, so long as your Bethesda Launcher account is linked to the Steam account on which you own Fallout 76. Your Bethesda.net wallet, including your Atom balance, will transfer over to Steam once you have completed the migration process.

Q: I already own Fallout 76 on Steam with a different account name and different characters. What should I do?

A: We recommend that you create a new Steam account, link it to the Bethesda.net account you use with the Bethesda.net Launcher, and then proceed with the migration.

Q: What can I do if I accidentally linked the wrong account?

A: Prior to migrating, you will be able to Unlink your Steam account from your Bethesda.net account a limited number of times, so that you can re-link to the correct one. Our Support team will not be able to assist you if you linked the wrong account once the transfer has occurred.

Q: Will I be able to run multiple instances of the Fallout 76 client through Steam at once?

A: We do not officially support running multiple copies of the Fallout 76 game client simultaneously.

Q: How will Steam achievements for Fallout 76 work after I’ve switched from the Bethesda.net launcher?

A: Some achievements, like those for discovering locations or earning 10,000 Caps, will trigger automatically. However, many achievements for content you’ve already completed, such as quest-based achievements, will require you to replay that content using a different character.

Q: I purchased a cosmetic bundle through the Atomic Shop via the Bethesda Launcher. Steam says I don’t own it. Do I have to purchase it again?

A: No. You will retain access to all of your games and in-game items, whether or not they appear in your Steam library.

Q: Will Fallout 1st and Atoms still be available to purchase through the Bethesda.net website?

A: No. Starting April 27, we will cease sales of game products on the Bethesda.net website.
