We’ve reopened the Public Test Server to share an early look at our upcoming game improvements for Fallout 76!

We hope you will join us in trying out these changes and are very interested in your feedback and bug reports with us in the Bethesda Studios Discord Server.

Updates are listed in chronological order, scroll down for the most recent changes.

Vault 76 Changes

We’ve made changes to the base game experience for players freshly starting their game in Vault 76. Since Fallout 76 launched five years ago, there have been numerous gameplay changes and improvements, and now we’re giving new players a way to jump straight into the action in future updates.

We’ve broken down the changes into three sections; What we added, what we changed, and what we fixed.

New Additions

General
  • Players can now choose to start at Level 20. This gives them starter weapons, ammo, armor, perk packs, various survival supplies, and pre-filled loadouts.
  • We’ve placed a donation box outside of Vault 76 for players to help one another.
  • Two new perks have been added, Arms Keeper and Stable Tools.
    • Arms Keeper: Reduces Weight of Rifles (25%, 50%, 75%)
    • Stable Tools: Automatic Melee Weapon Durability Bonus (10%, 25%, 40%)
  • There are now level 10 versions of T-45 and Raider Power Armor.
  • We’ve added a “New” filter when viewing Perk Cards.
  • We now give a warning to players under level 50 trying to enter Daily Ops.
Workbench Updates
  • All workbench lists use alphabetical sorting.
  • Item names in workbench are standardized across all lists.
  • Show unlockable button now shows recipes you can learn through a plan, scrapping, or can purchase in the Atomic Shop.
  • Unlearned recipes show the name of the plan you need, what item to scrap, or lets you buy it from the store.
  • 1-star legendary mods no longer show up under "Random Legendary Mods". 2- and 3-star mods now display correctly under "Current Mods" when inspecting an item.
  • Improved the learned mod counter.

  • We’ve lowered the level requirements for Various Perk cards.
  • Added more default C.A.M.P. recipes for all players.

  • Renamed over 600 C.A.M.P. Items.
  • Removed the Hunter/Hunted radio station and event.
  • Good with Salt description accurately states the effects of the modification. The Refrigerated mod does not stack with the perk.
  • Grenadier perk now applies to Gauss weapons.
  • Players will no longer receive Legendary Power Armor pieces as rewards from Events and Quests until level 20.

July 20, 2023 Update

Today’s update to the PTS focuses on addressing Legendary Item drops! For this, we are increasing the spawn rate for Legendary Creatures to better test the fix. Please note that the increased spawn rate will not carry over into the live game and is for testing only.

  • Power Armor: The Hydraulic Bracers now display the correct unarmed damage in the Pip-Boy stats.
  • Mods: The Pneumatic Armor mod description has been changed from “Reduce incoming Stagger” to “Reduce incoming Stagger by 25%”
  • Resistances: Immunity to Acid, Energy, and Radiation damage will now reduce the damage of only that specific damage type, instead of the entire attack. This is to prevent other types of damage in the attack from being affected.
  • Trading: Addressed an issue where a highlighted item in the trade menu can change while setting its price, leading to incorrect items being offered.

Thanks for your participation in the PTS! We look forward to bringing you these changes and many more to the live game this summer.
