Today’s Public Test Server (PTS) update will be turning off the World Pets feature for now. It’s time to send our pets back to their C.A.M.P. beds to give them some well-deserved rest. We hope you’ve enjoyed this early look at the feature! The feedback you’ve provided will help push us towards the next pet PTS which will arrive later this year.
And now, a S.P.E.C.I.A.L. message from Jon Rush, Fallout 76's Creative Director:
Our focus on Fallout 76 remains steadfast as the team continues to work on exciting new content for the future of our Appalachian wasteland. We look forward to sharing some details (and teases) about what we have planned soon.

Infestations
Today’s PTS update reactivates the Infestations feature. We have a collection of changes that are direct responses to community feedback.
Please note that some of the changes are scheduled to be released in our July update, while other changes are scheduled to arrive in the Fall update.
Scheduled to Release in July:
Bosses have been rebalanced to make them more challenging for large groups of players to fight.
All players on a server will now see a Server Message when an Infestation has spawned and when one has been cleared.
The initial search area for where an Infestation could be located has been reduced.
Tentatively Scheduled to Arrive in the Fall:
New meta objective has been added to Infestations. Players must find and kill Infestation enemies to summon the Infestation Boss.
- This is an attempt to help slow the event down and give more players a chance to join in on the fun.
The boss corpse will now be highlighted after it is killed to make it easier to find.
- Please note the visuals of this are still a work in progress.
A new smoke visual has been added to the Paper Map to indicate where an Infestation is.
An option to turn off/on Infestation notifications and visual overlays has been added to the game.
Fast traveling to teammates already in an Infestation is now free!
Morgantown location has been removed from the rotation

To celebrate this first testing period for pets, we’re going allow them to start fighting alongside you! As a general reminder, this experience is not final nor is it the full scope of the feature. We’d love your thoughts on how it feels to fight alongside your favorite friend!
Combat
Health
All pets have the same amount of HP regardless of their species. Their total amount of health scales with your level.
Allowing your pet to take too much damage will put them into a downed state. Requiring you to rush to their side and deliver a Stimpak to get them back up. Clearing out all nearby enemies will also pick your pet up, but they’ll still require a Stimpak to get them back to full health.
Pets will not be affected by Radiation or Diseases, and they cannot be hurt by other players.
Other players can give your pet a Stimpak though. So, if see someone’s Glowing Radhog is down in the dumps, be a good Samaritan and give it a quick pick-me-up.
Combat
All pets can attack enemies through a series of melee attacks. Dogs will bite and Deathclaws (and cats) will scratch. Radhogs, well Radhogs RAM!
Pets will never attack other players even if they are hostile to you. They will only attack enemy NPCs.

Original Article Notes
Have you ever wanted to take your C.A.M.P. Pet out into the wasteland to travel and fight alongside you? We hope so, because we’re relaxing the leash on pets so that they can join you on your adventures!
Today we’re kicking off a very special Public Test Server (henceforth known as a Pspsps-TS or Paw-TS if you're so inclined) for a major new feature coming to Fallout 76 later this year.
How to Participate in the PTS
All players who own a copy of Fallout 76 on Steam can participate in our Pspsps-TS. Please note that progress from the Pspsps-TS does not carry over into the live game. The Atomic Shop is also disabled during this testing period.
To install the Pspsps-TS, open your Steam library, and install “Fallout 76 Public Test Server”.
Public Test Server Schedule
World Pets will have two separate Pspsps-TS periods before it releases later this year.
This first test will NOT contain all the content arriving in this update nor all the features for pets that we plan to release.
Starting today, World Pets will be available for focused testing on pet navigation. So please travel all around Appalachia and let us know of any areas where the experience doesn’t meet your expectations. For this test, pets will never enter combat with anyone. So, you don’t have to worry about them taking damage or attacking anyone.
When the World Pets Pspsps-TS returns, we’ll kick things off with the navigation and combat being available for testing. This phase of the Pspsps-TS will include the rest of the content from this update for you all to experience and provide feedback on. So please stay tuned for all those details later this year.
Now, let’s talk a bit more about these pets.
REMINDER: Everything in the PTS is subject to change.
Finding your Pets
Every C.A.M.P. Pet you currently own can be brought out into the world as a travel partner. In your Pip-Boy, you’ll find a new tab under the “Stats” menu that shows your entire catalogue of Pets. Selecting one of the pets in that menu will summon them beside you. Ready for the many adventures that await you!
Once this update releases, all pets will be able to be used in your C.A.M.P. or out in the wasteland.
Pet Commands
With your faithful companion beside you, you’re ready to take on the wasteland. When looking at your pet, an interact button will appear that allows you to issue one of the commands below. The emote wheel has been updated to provide a way to quickly access these commands as well.
- Stay – The pet will remain at its current location until you give the follow command, or you move to far away.
- Follow – Your pet will follow you.
When it comes to having your pet follow you around, the only places you won’t be able to take your furry friend is into a Raid or a Shelter. Pets will also not be able to swim underwater.
We’re excited for you to get your hands on these pets and tell us about your adventures with them around Appalachia.
Please remember, this is a unique slice of the World Pets feature that we hope to bring to you later this year. It does not represent the full scope of the feature, and it also does not contain the rest of the content that will be arriving alongside it.
