Beyond the Show: Fallout Season 1

Get ready for Season 2 of the Fallout show with this look back at Season 1 and how it connects to the games. Season 2 debuts on December 17 on Amazon Prime.

Go deeper into Season 1

With the kickoff of Fallout Season 2 on Amazon Prime just around the corner, there’s never been a better time to explore the iconic game series that started it all. Whether you’re a longtime Vault Dweller looking to relive some of your favorite stories or you’re a newcomer fresh from the show, the world of Fallout is waiting for you.
Explore the wasteland, uncover Vault-Tec’s secrets, meet unforgettable characters, choose your faction, and maybe make some friends along the way. The Fallout games aren’t just the foundation for the show. They’re your gateway to the world beyond the episode.

The Wasteland

Every Fallout game is set in a unique version of the wasteland, shaped by its region and era. Season 1 of the Amazon Prime show introduced you to the post-apocalyptic wasteland, but the games let you live it. Explore the ruins of Boston in Fallout 4. Survive the wilds of Appalachia in Fallout 76. Each wasteland is a character itself – a sandbox of survival, exploration and storytelling.
Season 2 features a move to the Mojave, the home of Fallout: New Vegas, where the sunbaked desert and neon-lit New Vegas strip await. If you want to walk the same sands as Lucy and The Ghoul, Fallout: New Vegas is a must-play.

Vault-Tec & Vaults

Ah, Vault-Tec. The shadowy corporation behind the vaults. Those iconic underground shelters are as much a part of Fallout as the wasteland itself. Season 1’s Vault 33 drama echoes themes often seen across the franchise, where each vault is the result of a twisted Vault-Tec experiment.
Visit Fallout 4’s Vault 101, where they studied the effects of long-term cryostasis on its inhabitants. Emerge from the titular vault in Fallout 76 and experience Reclamation Day 25 years after the bombs dropped. And as the Overseer in Fallout Shelter, it’s up to you to lead your own horrifying experiments!

Ghouls & Feral Ghouls

Ghouls – humans twisted by radiation (and chems) – are a staple of both the show and the games. In the games, ghouls range from wise survivors to terrifying feral monsters. Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas both feature memorable ghoul characters with their own stories and struggles.
In Fallout 76’s “The Ghoul Within” update, you were given your chance to live life as one of these ghouls, with all the ups and downs that come with it, including the ability to withstand the high radiation of the wasteland or become a feral melee berserker. And now, you can jump into the new Burning Springs map expansion update and hang out with The Ghoul from the TV show!

Factions

Fallout’s wastelands are never empty. They’re filled with factions vying for control, fighting over the scraps leftover from before the bombs fell. Season 1 of the show introduced you to the Brotherhood of Steel, The Enclave and (very briefly) the New California Republic, hinting at the political turmoil coming in Season 2.
In the games, it’s up to you to join or fight these factions. Fallout: New Vegas is well-known for its branching faction storylines. Fallout 4 lets you choose sides in the Commonwealth’s struggle. In Fallout 76, you and your fellow players can experience the waxing and waning of new factions as humans return to West Virginia just 25 years after the bombs fell.

Companions

No one survives for long alone in the wasteland. Season 1’s breakout star, CX404 (aka Dogmeat), stole our hearts and reminded us of the importance of companions. In the games, Dogmeat is a loyal friend, appearing in Fallout, Fallout 2, Fallout 3 and Fallout 4. In Fallout 4, Dogmeat can even equip his own gear, carry your items and fetch nearby items. Fallout: New Vegas introduces its own canine companion with Rex, a cybernetic dog with his own story.
Companions aren’t just sidekicks. They’re family, and they’ll shape your journey through the wasteland. Want to live out your Lucy dreams and walk the wasteland with a charming ghoul at your side? Spend some time with the mayor of Goodneighbor, Hancock.
